The apparent failure of the new method of selection of polling station officers may indicate that this is the real Achilles heel of the electoral procedures in Ecuador, which in turn suggests that the introduction of further reforms would be advisable in order to avoid this situation recurring. As regards the content of such reforms, the TSE could study the different formulae being used in the region and in the rest of the world, and then decide which one is most feasible and appropriate to the political and social conditions in the
country.
