At the General Council elections on 21 and 28 March 2004 the Union pour un Mouvement Populaire (UMP) won nine seats (with 22·8% of the vote), the Mouvement Départmentaliste Mahorais (MDM) won six (23·3%) and the Mouvement Républicain et Citoyen (MRC) won two (8·9%). The Mouvement Populaire Mahorais (MPM) and Diverse Gauche (DVG) took one seat each. The Parti Socialiste (PS) took 10·2% of the vote but no seats.
