An international delegation organized by the National Democratic Institute and the Carter Center observed the presidential elections in Palestine and released this preliminary statement. On January 9, the delegation deployed 80 observers in the West Bank, gaza and East Jerusalem to provide an impartial and accurate assessment. The NDI has conducted programs to support the development of democratic elections in Palestine for more than a decade, and considered this elections as a great accomplishment: it was generally peaceful, administered fairly and the process was carried out in accordance with the Electoral Law. The delegation also recognized some weaknesses in the process and added recommendations.
