Electoral
processes encompass three types of registration:
- voter
registration ‑ the process of verification of a citizen’s eligibility to vote;
- the
registration of political parties and candidates ‑ verification of the
eligibility of political parties and candidates to stand for election; and
- observers’
accreditation ‑ a procedure designed to grant different actors access to
observe relevant electoral activities.
All three may
have an impact on the credibility and integrity of electoral processes and as
such represent potential factors contributing to election-related tensions and
violence.
