Periodic List Does Not Require Ongoing Maintenance
One of the significant advantages of the periodic voters list is that the system does not require
the ongoing storage and maintenance of voter registration data. The election administration
authority normally creates a new voters' list de novo for each electoral event. Although
long-term storage is avoided with this method, one should not ignore the fact that the source
documents do require organizing and storing, even though much if not all of this material may
be discarded after the election is over and the appeals period has passed.
Much more significant issues of long-term maintenance and storage of records arise with both
the continuous list of voters or the civil registry.
