The first step in managing the implementation of new technology is to prepare a plan. The plan will set out what you want to achieve and how you intend to achieve it.
The first stage in the planning process is a needs assessment (also described as an 'environmental scan'). What are you currently doing? What do you want to improve? What do your stakeholders expect of you? How does your management and your staff feel about implementing new technology? Can new technology meet your identified needs and expectations? At the end of this assessment process you might (or you might not) conclude that new technology is what you need.
Once you decide to introduce new technology or update your existing technology, you will need to map out a detailed plan for securing stakeholder agreement, securing funding and implementing your chosen technology.
After your new technology has been purchased and installed, it will have to be developed and maintained. A development strategy is needed to ensure the effective deployment of your technology.
